Cosmetic Ear Cropping...What to Expect?
Cosmetic ear cropping is a surgical process in which the pinnas are being altered for a desired aesthetic. This procedure is a day procedure similar to that of a spay or neuter procedure. Your pet will treated with the upmost respect and receive proper management every step of the way. See the notes below to better understand what is involved with your pets upcoming procedure.
Consultation & Exam
Prior to pursuing your pets ear crop, our staff will schedule an online or in person consultation to review with you your pet's health, surgical request and to provide an educational platform to ensure your expectations become the reality.

A full exam is performed with the client to review your pet's health and ensure there are no additional general health concerns or questions by the family. Your pet's general success as a pet is our first and foremost priority.

After examination, we will then pursue consultation specific to your pets' ears, tails, dewclaws etc. as desired.

Once all parties are in aggreeance to the desired surgical care, you pet will then have basic lab work performed to ensure it's health and safety under anesthesia.
Surgery
The day of surgery, your pet is checked in to the hospital between 8-8:30am. You will briefly review your pet's well-being and planned surgical care prior to being admitted to the hospital.
Shortly after check-in, your pet will obtain a light sedative and proceed with full anesthesia to pursue surgical care with Dr. Hansen. Dr. Hansen will provide the desired style as discussed in consultation. After surgery, Dr. Hansen will secure a temporary cap on your pets' head to stabilize the ears. In additional to pain management being provided before and during surgical care, your pet will also receive a light recovery sedative to ensure a gentle recovery.

As your pet is guided into recovery care with our nursing team, they will be provided continued comfort measures and be monitored to ensure that their pain management is being addressed properly. If adjustments are needed, Dr. Hansen and her team will provide additional support as needed.

Discharge Summary
Each patient will have a scheduled discharge appointment. This will allow for our staff to provide you with information on how to manage your pet once you arrive home. Your pet will be provided additional pain management and antibiotics to go home. Additionally, over the next 10-14 days you will be providing light medical management to expedite your pets healing process. This light medical management includes cleaning and application of medical ointment to the surgical margin of the ear. 10-14 day from the time of surgery, you and your pet will return for suture removal and a hands-on tutorial on how to "post" the ears. It is important to not "post" the ears until all sutures have been removed and the tissue has properly healed.
Meeting the Expectations
Our goal is to ensure that we exceed your expectations with regard to your pet's desired aesthetic. We will work to provide you with the desired style, education and skill sets to set you up for success.
Take note that our services are bundled for your success. We will be with you every step of the way to obtain the desired finish on your pet. Most pets, pending on the style elected, will stand with-in 12-16 weeks of posting, once all sutures have been removed and the posting begins.

If you ever have any questions or concerns during the healing or posting process, we happily invite you to reach out for continued support. We also encourage you to send along photos as we are always excited to show your pet off!
